The denim on denim trend looks chic and elegant and has been a mainstay for many of our favourite celebrities, from Kangna Ranaut to Alia Bhatt. But, we all know that we can easily make a fashion faux pas while supporting this trend, but that doesn’t mean that you have to be wary of supporting the trend. Here is what you need to keep in mind before you step out sporting a denim-on-denim.
DO: For starters play with colours.
Before exploring shades of double blue, start out by pairing different shades of denim together, like white jeans and a blue denim jacket, or black jeans and a chambray shirt.
DON’T: Wear denim accessories.
Keep the jeans confined to your clothing and just say no to denim shoes, a denim hat, a denim handbag, or any other accessory.
DO: Use different shades of denim to flatter or hide your fat (if you want to).
As a general rule, lighter shades of denim draw attention to the body parts they cover, while darker ones create a slimming effect.
DON’T: Wear a denim outfit that’s all the same weight or wash.
Take our word for it. It will look too matchy-matchy. You don’t want to look out of proportion.
DO: The distressed denim look.
Something about distressed denim that just lends itself well to the double denim look. So don’t be afraid to rip away.
DON’T: Look at cowboys for inspiration.
Think of denim on denim, and images of cowboys are likely come to your mind, and that’s not necessarily a good thing. Stay away from accessories like cowboy boots, cowboy hats, bolo ties, and Western belts. P.S. Did you know that the denim on denim trend is also popularly known as Canadian Tuxedo?
DO: Dress up your double denim.
Don’t be afraid to elevate your outfit with luxe-looking items including statement heels, a tuxedo blazer, or chunky neckpiece.
Don’t underestimate the power of a plain, crew-neck tee. It is the ideal way to differentiate between the double denim choices. Just throw on a denim jacket on top and play it safe with the trend.
Don’t: Wear embroidered denims.
Don’t wear denims with weird graphic prints and too many pockets. You will just end up looking like a caricature.
