It sure was a shocker when the eternal bachelor George Clooney broke his vow to never marry again. It was his bitter divorce that had made him so sour towards marriage. But all seems to be well in his love life now that he got engaged to lawyer girlfriend Amal Alamuddin in April this year. While there are celebrities who can’t stop getting married or dating (read: Kishore Kumar or Jennifer Lopez), there are many just like Clooney, dead against holy matrimony. Have a dekko at these celebrities who want to stay away from marriage.
Charlize Theron: According to the beautiful actress marriage is ‘not her thing’. She is currently in a relationship with Sean Penn and if sources are to be believed, Penn went down on his knee too. In an interview Charlize had said “Even when I was a little girl, I never dreamed of a white dress and all that stuff.” Let’s see if she will ever be ready to say ‘I do’.
Tabu: Tabu has been asked numerous times about her marriage plans and every time the beautiful actress has responded with, “Don’t ask me questions on marriage. Yeh abhi puraana ho gaya. Jo nahi hai uske bare mein baat karne ka kya faayda.” Nevertheless, rumour has it that she is in a relationship with South Indian actor Nagarjuna who is already married.
Cameron Diaz: In an interview the leggy lass once said “I don’t think we should live our lives in relationships based on old traditions that don’t suit our world any longer.“ She thinks marriage is a ‘dying institution’ and is totally against it.
Sajid Khan: The filmmaker who has given us one horrible movie after another, recently said in an interview, “When you don’t have a woman in your life, you don’t have someone constantly nagging you, so you end up working better and are more focused.” He is rumoured to be dating his lead actress Tamannaah but has chosen to stay mum about it.
Oprah Winfrey: Oprah Winfrey who has been in a relationship with Stedman Graham for a very long time is content not being married to him. Even though the couple had plans of getting married, they never did and yet have a very strong relationship together.
Imtiaz Ali: Imitaz has given us some of the best movies to remember. When asked about marriage the filmmaker quipped, “Marriage reduces you to a ch***a version”. He is currently separated from his wife Preety and marriage according to him is ‘claustrophobic, artificial and something that makes you mediocre.’
Kristin Davis: She played the marriage-obsessed Charlotte in Sex and The City but is the complete opposite in real life. In an interview, she said, “Little girls who say, ‘I want to get married’; I was never one of those little girls. It is not that I wouldn’t, but I don’t see that I must do it or be unhappy. I don’t know if I’ll ever get married. I’m perfectly happy [with] my single self.” The actress adopted a girl named Gemma and is very happy being a mother.
Karan Johar: The filmmaker went on record on the fourth season of his own show and said, “Only mad people get hitched.” Adding to that, he also said that he is happy being single and doesn’t want to get ‘trapped’ in a marriage. Well, it sure seems like he hates marriage.
Eva Mendes: The actress who until recently was dating the hottie Ryan Gosling, went on record and said that she isn’t keen on tying the knot. She said” I actually think it’s really sexy to be with someone in your 50s and 60s and be like, ‘That’s my boyfriend.’ I think husband and wife is just… very unsexy.” Do you think that’s why Ryan and Eva broke up?
Jon Hamm: The Mad Men actor has no intentions of ever tying the knot. His girlfriend of over 15 years, Jennifer Westfeldt, is okay with it too. In an interview he said, “I don’t have the marriage chip, and neither of us have the greatest examples of marriages in our families.” He added, “Jen is the love of my life, and we’ve already been together four times longer than my parents were married.”
