Deepika Padukone in Happy New Year:
Deepika shone the brightest this year as well with stellar turns in films like Homi Adajania’s Finding Fanny and Farah Khan’s Diwali blockbuster Happy New Year. Her sizzling hot item number in the film was quite popular too.
Kangana Ranaut in Queen:
After a string of flops and obscure roles in multistarrer comedies, Kangna Ranaut made quite the turnaround this year with Vikas Bahl’s superlative comedy drama Queen. Such was the appeal of this quirky coming-of-age story that it gained the stamp of approval from both critics and movie-goers.
Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom:
While her first 2014 release Gunday got her commercial success, Omung Kumar’s Mary Kom lent some gravitas to her acting credits. While it received mixed reviews, PeeCee was applauded for her performance.
Alia Bhatt in Highway:
After debuting with a rather frothy high school romance drama, Alia proved her acting prowess with Imtiaz Ali’s Highway early on in the year. The subsequent success of 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania were icing on the cake.
Tabu in Haider:
Enough has been said about the ever luminous Tabu and her striking turn as the troubled hero’s mother in Vishal Bhardwaj’s much lauded Haider. No wonder then, that Rediff readers were just as smitten by her as the rest of us.

Sonakshi Sinha in Action Jackson:
Never mind that Sonakshi Sinha mostly works in hero-centric films where she is often reduced to playing a pretty prop. Thanks to her 2014 releases Holiday and Action Jackson, she’s found a place in this list too.
Katrina Kaif in Bang Bang:
Nobody can hold our attention as well as Katrina Kaif and her smouldering looks. Her Bang Bang turn, in which she teamed with the gorgeous Hrithik Roshan for some scenic romance and adrenaline-pumping action, will attest to that fact.
Parineeti Chopra in Hasee Toh Phasee:
Parineeti Chopra in Hasee Toh Phasee Parineeti Chopra‘s screen presence came into its own with her film Hasee Toh Phasee, in which she played a scientist with a pill-popping problem.
Madhuri Dixit in Dedh Ishqiya:
Madhuri Dixit’s second comeback was decidedly much more spectacular than the 2007 debacle that was Aaja Nachle. Just wish she’d gotten to dance a wee bit more.

Rani Mukerji in Mardaani:
Mrs Aditya Chopra returned to acting duties after secretly getting married in Italy. The film’s misplaced notion of feminism and vigilantism notwithstanding, Rani won her fans’ approval.
