Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor:

Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor have a lot of things in common. For one they’re both nearly the same age, secondly they’ve both dated Shahid Kapoor! But that isn’t why they fought. The history goes back to the sets of Aitraaz, when Bebo was apparently unhappy with the attention and recognition PeeCee received. Later she was even known to have called Priyanka just an ‘acquaintance’ on Koffee with Karan.

Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone:

Things started turning sour between these two beauties after they were snapped together for the last time on Koffee with Karan. Apparently, after Deepika patched things up with Ranbir Kapoor, their common enemy, Sonam started taking digs at Dippy. The icy cold war is now evident after Sonam was heard saying that Deepika has no style of her own! Deepika too quipped that Sonam had an overenthusiastic PR team!

Once upon a time school buddies, the friendship between Abhishek and Hrithik has now boiled down to occasional socialising at formal events. Both started their careers at the same time. While one got instant fame and craze, the other was criticized and compared to his glorious father. The differences only got wider with Dhoom 2, the movie that saw the two sharing on-screen space along with Abhishek’s to-be wife Ash. Not only was the Junior Bachchan overshadowed by the green-eyed hero but he also found himself helpless as Ash shared her career’s first on-screen kiss with Hrithik!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sushmita Sen’s rivalry goes back to the days when both these girls were competing with each other for the Miss India title. Aishwarya was everyone’s favourite and an established model but Sushmita’s win started a cold-war of sorts between the two. Though both of them went ahead and won the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions respectively and decided to join Bollywood. The actresses have always maintained a dignified silence on the issue and are not known to be close.

The greatest actors of the 40s and 50s, Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar knew each other since they were school-going boys in Peshawar. In Bombay, they found themselves studying in the same college, The Khalsa College. Though  Raj Kapoor as the eldest son of the most admired and popular actor of the time, Prithviraj Kapoor, had an upper hand, Dilip Kumar soon caught up and claimed his own share of fame and name in the film industry.

Jaya Prada and Sridevi:

The two leading ladies of the South were arch rivals. Jaya Prada is known to have said in an interview, “Sridevi was jealous of me and considered me her rival. We would be at the same shoot, but sitting in two different corners.” She added, “So much so, that in a film ‘Toffa’ with Jeetendra,  in which she was to be shown as dying on my lap, her mother told the director, “My daughter will not die in Jaya’s lap. Please change the scene”.

This is forever frozen in our minds as Bollywood’s first superstar who crashed and burned unable to face his own fading stardom in light of the rise of his most unequal rival.  His descent into oblivion was fueled further as the young Amitabh Bachchan slowly gained popularity. Big B was just a newcomer in the movie ‘Anand’ when Rajesh Khanna was already an established superstar. Rajesh Khanna’s massive ego clubbed with his pathological dislike for the young Amitabh, turned this into a bitter one-sided rivalry.

Rakhee and Sharmila Tagore:

Bengali tigresses Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee were said to be at each other’s throats with their intense rivalry. Things got worse during the the filming of ‘Daag’, where the two actors had a massive showdown, and weren’t on talking terms thereafter. Apparently, co-star Rajesh Khanna was silently supporting Sharmila in the battle. They two grand ladies of Bollywood were recently cast in a Rituparno Ghosh film called ‘Shubho Mahurat’.

Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha:

The two actors worked together in films such as Dostana and Shaan but were dubbed as rivals during their heydays. Trouble began during Dostana in the ‘80s with their growing egos, neither Amitabh nor Shatru wanted to work together. However, things looked better when, keeping their personal differences aside, Shatrughan appeared in the next Bachchan-dominant movie, Shaan. The film could not repeat the magic of their previous films and the rift between the two widened. But the rivalry seems to have turned into friendship because the two have been spotted bonding at various public events recently.

Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla:

While we are well aware of the Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit rivalry, little did we know that in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Dixit and Chawla were considered to be thick competitors. The two recently came together for a film called ‘Gulab Gang’. Juhi is known to have said at an interview that, “We were rivals earlier for some years. We used to meet only occasionally like on film sets or at functions. We would not talk beyond a ‘hello’ and just used to exchange pleasantries”.
