Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 will happen in Mumbai from March 1st to March 6th. The event’s highlight will be an ode to the Indian weaves and crafts by India’s established and emerging designers.
Anjana Sharma, Director-Fashion IMG Reliance, revealed, “As a tribute to Indian textiles, LFW will be dedicating a day to Indian Craftsmanship and Textiles. All designers participating on this day will showcase Indian weaves and crafts. Krishna Mehta, a staunch supporter of Indian arts and crafts will curate the day. The event will see industry veterans participating in guest lectures, panel discussions and workshops. LFW’s endeavour is to aggregate the best designers who work with indigenous fabrics and put together a collection bringing the dominance of Indian textiles to the fore. Sabyasachi Mukherjee who’s known for using yards of hand-woven textiles in his designs, will also present his special collection going with the theme. The designer revolutionized fashion and brought attention to hand-woven Indian craft and textiles from rural India after his saris on Vidya Balan caught instant liking.
Rohit bal has been announced as the Grand Finale designer this year. He returns as the finale designer after 12 years. The veteran designer will be interpreting the Lakme Absolute range by Lakme.
Narendra Kumar, Krishna Mehta, Rohit Bal, Swapnil Shinde, Anita Dongre, Masaba are other established designers who will be a part of the Fashion Week.
Lakme Fashion Week will also see iconic international Designer Bibhu Mohapatra presenting a show on the LFW Runway.
