Among the plethora of designers showcasing on Day 2 at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 edition was debutante Veda Raheja with ‘Tri-Faceted’, a collection of evening dresses and separates inspired by the geometric lines & architecture of the famed self taught Japanese Architect Tadao Ando.
Her showstopper for the evening was the versatile singer and actress Monica Dogra. Her guests included the likes of her prolific family – Vijay Raheja, Geetu Hinduja, Avani Raheja, Ekta Raheja along with Tarana Masand, Nisha Jamvwal, Zeba Kohli, Payal Khandwala among others.
Veda’s inspiration, Ando’s architectural style is said to create a haiku effect, emphasizing nothingness and empty space to represent the beauty of simplicity and Veda took on the challenging task of translating some of those ideas into designing accouterments.
Using geometry to generate minimalist lines, bold forms and subtle textures, she teamed the basic contours with color blocking in rich, bold and vibrant shades contrasted with greys and blacks.
