Ranveer Singh’s ‘Simmba’ Is Like A Rajinikanth Film On Steroids

We’re losing our minds because we can’t believe what we just watched. While blowing up expensive cars, showcasing some heavy-duty stunts, and dropping bombs like they’re bedazzled baubles is totes up Rohit Shetty’s alley, his next film Simmba is another ball game altogether. Starring the newly-hitched Ranveer Singh and the effervescent Sara Ali Khan, the film’s trailer has some tight action scenes alright–but it’s the dialogues that are making us cringe like that memory of a stinky fart that once escaped into a public breathing space.

The trailer begins with Ajay Devgn spewing some godfather like spiel about baby Ranveer’s aspirations to become a cop. Flash forward to a beefy Ranveer mouthing gimmicky dialogues such as: “Yeh kalyug hai, yahaan log sirf ek hi maksad ke liye jeete hai. Apne matlab ke liye” and “Main police walah bana paisa kamaane ko, Robin Hood banke dusre ka madad karne le liye nahin”. Sara is barely seen throughout the trailer, and it makes us wonder if Rohit Shetty even cares enough to flesh out his female characters amidst all the toxic masculinity his films dish out.
