Ram-Leela movieAfter the much awaited movie of the year Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela hit theatres this past Friday, despite a lot of unrequired controversy, halls ran full.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest work may have had many a tumbling rocks to dodge, but it clearly emerged triumphant. The film starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh reeled in an earning of Rs. 16 cr on Friday alone, following that up with a higher Rs.17.5 cr win on Saturday, finally closing in on Rs.19 crore on Sunday.

These number have made the film the fourth highest grosser in the first weekend, leaving movies like Grand Masti (Rs.40.18 crore) and Race 2 (Rs.51.35 crore) behind. Taran Adrash wrote on Twitter, “RamLeela continues to win hearts. Saturday Rs.17.5 cr. Total so far: Rs.33.5 cr nett. Expect a bigger total on Sunday”.

And soon after called the film the “5th biggest opener of 2013… Deepika’s 3rd biggest opener Ranveer’s biggest opener!” The film’s promos teased viewers with the completely hot, hot, hot chemistry between Leela (Deepika Padukone) and Ram (Ranveer Singh), and once out, it didn’t fail on that account. The film may be receiving mixed reviews but what’s undeniable is the newness of SLB’s style. This film definitely upped the ante on the filmmaker’s movie-making style, and what trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote and had us agreeing to: “It’s violent, has sexual overtones, contains strong lingo… even an item number (Priyanka Chopra)”.
