Are you excited to see an unconventional romantic pair where a cool dude falls in love with a place Jane? Or are you excited to see that film, which has made the gigantic filmmaker, Karan Johar apologizing to NMS ((Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) chief? There were already enough hype regarding Karan Johar’s next flick, ‘Wake Up Sid’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Kankona Sen but just when Sid landed on the earth for a special screening, NMS activists disrupted the show in some cinema halls in Mumbai and Pune. You must have wondering why? Well, they had a huge objection to use of the previous name of the tinsel town, ‘Bombay’ instead of ‘Mumbai’ a couple of times in the film.
But NMS people have different things to say. They, according to the reports, were particularly agitated over the fact that the movie mocked their president Siddharth Thackeray in particular, by asking “Sid” to wake up. They said, “Sid Sir hardly sleeps for more than three hours these days, and these uncouth and uncultured people are asking him to wake up! How can someone tolerate such shit? We will wait till tomorrow morning and see for ourselves if things have been set right, or we know how to set them right.”
Karan, on the other hand, was touched by NMS generosity, as he said, “I am consulting friends, lawyers, police, pundits, doctors, bankers and family members and will decide what to do. They had come with hockey sticks to beat me up but their leader Siddharth was very generous and told them to postpone the bashing as it was International non-violence Day today. I’m touched by this display of compassion and generosity, and would do my best not to hurt the NMS guys.”
On this issue, the NMS high command gave only three days to the director of this film for a written as well as verbal apology. According to the reports, producer and director Karan Johar went to meet MNS chief Raj Thackeray to sort out the whole issue and had also apologized for referring ‘Mumbai’ city as ‘Bombay’ in the film. A close source even confirmed that Karan will present a disclaimer in the beginning of the film. While many film critics have seen the conduct of NMS members as an act to curb the creative freedom of an artist, Karan feels creative people commit mistakes and there is absolutely no shame in apologizing.
